Es wurde 1963 \u2013 noch vor der Entkolonialisierung Botswanas \u2013 von Elizabeth Purane Moremi ausgerufen, der Witwe des ehemaligen Chief Moremi III. und Herrscherin \u00fcber das baTawana-Gebiet im Norden des Landes. Mit der Einrichtung des Moremi-Wildreservats wollten die baTawana bedrohte Wildtiere sch\u00fctzen und die \u00fcppige Landschaft im Herzen des Okavango-Deltas bewahren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">1989 wurde im Reservat das <i>African Wild Dog Project<\/i> ins Leben gerufen. Urspr\u00fcnglich sollte in seinem Rahmen das Verhalten von Afrikanischen Wildhunden (<i>Lycaon pictus<\/i>) erforscht werden, doch im Lauf von drei Jahrzehnten hat sich das Projekt zum Botswana Predator Conservation (BPC) entwickelt, einem Dachprogramm f\u00fcr die Erforschung aller grossen Raubtiere im Reservat. Hier haben Gabriele Cozzi von der Universit\u00e4t Z\u00fcrich und Peter Apps und Megan Claase vom BPC eine Kamerafalle f\u00fcr Triggered by Motion installiert. Sie bewegen sich in Rudeln und hinterlassen unterwegs Duftmarkierungen, um ihr Revier zu kennzeichnen. Die Kamerafallen werden eingesetzt, um dieses Verhalten zu untersuchen. Anhand des Filmmaterials wird analysiert, wo die Tiere ihren Kot und Urin absetzen und wie andere Hunde auf diese Markierungen reagieren. Letztendlich zielt das Projekt darauf ab, die chemische Kommunikation zwischen Individuen desselben Rudels und zwischen benachbarten Rudeln zu verstehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Forscherinnen und Forscher des Botswana Predator Conservation-Projekts arbeiten seit knapp zehn Jahren mit Kamerafallen. Afrikanische Wildhunde sind stark gef\u00e4hrdet, vor allem durch den Verlust ihres Lebensraums und durch Konflikte zwischen Mensch und Raubtier. Weil die Hunde Vieh angreifen, werden sie oft von Bauern und Hirten get\u00f6tet. Peter Apps, Gabriele Cozzi, Megan Claase und das Team von BPC nutzen die Daten, die sie mithilfe von Kamerafallen sammeln, um eine sogenannte \u00abBioBoundary\u00bb zu entwickeln: K\u00fcnstliche chemische Signale sollen die Rudel sicher innerhalb der Grenzen von Schutzgebieten halten. Auf der ganzen Welt gehen Raubtierpopulationen zur\u00fcck, weil sie wegen Angriffen auf Nutztiere get\u00f6tet werden.
