Fast die H\u00e4lfte seiner Fl\u00e4che ist von Wald bedeckt. Hier betreibt das auf Freiwilligenarbeit basierende Forschungsprojekt Snapshot Wisconsin ein landesweites Netz von Kamerafallen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Kamerafallen von Snapshot Wisconsin generieren einen kontinuierlichen Datenstrom, mit dessen Hilfe Forscher:innen die Wildtiere des Bundesstaates \u00fcberwachen. Allerdings ist die Auswertung dieser Datenmengen sehr zeitaufw\u00e4ndig. Aus diesem Grund setzt Snapshot Wisconsin auf die Hilfe von \u00fcber 1\u2019800 Freiwilligen. Diese <i>citizen scientists<\/i> sind f\u00fcr den Betrieb der \u00fcber 2\u2019000 Wildkameras zust\u00e4ndig, laden die Bilder hoch und helfen auch bei ihrer Klassifizierung. Seit 2015 ist so eine Datenbank mit mehr als 62 Millionen Fotos entstanden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blayne Zeise ist einer dieser Freiwilligen. Als er gebeten wurde, eine Kamera f\u00fcr Triggered by Motion einzurichten und zu \u00fcberwachen, w\u00e4hlte er den Standort aufgrund von zwei Faktoren aus. Erstens musste er \u00fcber eine kurze Wanderung erreichbar sein, da Blayne h\u00e4ufig nach der Kamera sehen musste, um Daten abzurufen und die Batterien zu wechseln. Zweitens wusste er, dass der Ort wegen seiner hohen Artenvielfalt geeignet sein w\u00fcrde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Blaynes Kamera zeichnete in der Tat viele Wildtiere auf. Am h\u00e4ufigsten hat sie Weisswedelhirsche (<i>Odocoileus virginianus<\/i>) und Waschb\u00e4ren (<i>Procyon lotor<\/i>) gefilmt. Graue (<i>Sciurus carolinensis<\/i>) und rote Eichh\u00f6rnchen (<i>Sciurus vulgaris<\/i>), Streifenh\u00f6rnchen (<i>Neotamias minimus<\/i>), Kragenh\u00fchner (<i>Bonasa umbellus<\/i>) und Kojoten (<i>Canis latrans<\/i>) erscheinen gelegentlich auf den Aufnahmen, und selten tauchen Haushunde (<i>Canis familiaris<\/i>), Buntspechte (<i>Dryocopus pileatus<\/i>), Blauh\u00e4her (<i>Cyanocitta cristata<\/i>), Rotluchse (<i>Lynx rufus<\/i>) und Rotf\u00fcchse (<i>Vulpes vulpes<\/i>) auf. Eine dieser Arten ist der  <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.snapshotwisconsin.org\/2019\/08\/10\/science-update-whooping-crane-sighting\/\" target=\"_self\">\u2192Schreikranich (<i>Grus americana<\/i>)<\/a>: Er ist wegen der Zerst\u00f6rung von Feuchtgebieten und weil er im 19. Jahrhundert \u00fcberm\u00e4ssig gejagt wurde weltweit bedroht. Dank zahlreichen Schutzbem\u00fchungen und Zuchtprogrammen konnte der Schreikranich im letzten Jahrhundert zwar vor dem Aussterben bewahrt werden \u2013 als gef\u00e4hrdet gilt er aber immer noch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Kamerafallen-Aufnahmen, die Blayne und die anderen Freiwilligen von Snapshot Wisconsin sammeln und klassifizieren, liefern aussagekr\u00e4ftige Daten zur Dynamik von Wildtierpopulationen. Letztlich erm\u00f6glichen sie Forscher:innen und politischen Entscheidungstr\u00e4ger:innen, fundierte Entscheidungen zum Management von Wildtieren zu treffen.
