In der Zwischenzeit sind an ihrer Stelle Lagerh\u00e4user und B\u00fcrogeb\u00e4ude aus dem Boden geschossen. Doch selbst in diesem urbanen Ballungsraum gibt es am Ufer des Coyote Creek noch ein paar Flecken Natur. Sie bilden einen Lebensraum f\u00fcr \u00fcber vierzig einheimische und mehr als sechzig Zugvogelarten. Hier hat Dan Wenny vom San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) eine Kamerafalle f\u00fcr Triggered by Motion aufgestellt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-videopress\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='500' height='281' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/mjtPSQZO?cover=1&amp;controls=0&amp;loop=1&amp;muted=1&amp;persistVolume=0&amp;posterUrl=https%3A%2F%2Ftriggeredbymotion.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2023%2F02%2Fsfbbo_sun_snip_mp4_hd.original.jpg&amp;preloadContent=metadata&amp;useAverageColor=1&amp;hd=0' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen data-resize-to-parent=\"true\" allow='clipboard-write'><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1674852142'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Land um die Feldstation am Coyote Creek, auf dem sich die Kamerafalle befindet, geh\u00f6rt dem Santa Clara Valley Water District. Die Feldstation selbst wurde in den 1980er-Jahren eingerichtet. Damals baute der Wasserbezirk ein Hochwasserschutz-Kanalsystem entlang der Ufer des Coyote Creek. Weil w\u00e4hrend der Bauarbeiten ein Teil der Ufervegetation entfernt werden musste, richtete der Santa Clara Valley Water District am Coyote Creek eine Renaturierungsstelle ein, die heute die Coyote Creek Field Station ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Arbeit in der Feldstation Coyote Creek begann im Jahr 1983. Hier werden einheimische und Zugv\u00f6gel beringt. Auf diese Weise kann das SFBBO die V\u00f6gel \u00fcber lange Zeitr\u00e4ume hinweg beobachten, um so die Zugrouten, Zwischenstopps w\u00e4hrend der Migration und die Verbindungen zwischen Brut- und Nichtbrutgebieten besser zu verstehen. Mit der Kamerafalle werden Raubtiere in der Umgebung der Beringungsstation \u00fcberwacht, die den V\u00f6geln gef\u00e4hrlich werden k\u00f6nnten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Wilde Katzen sind relativ h\u00e4ufig, tauchen in den Kamerafallendaten aber selten auf \u2013 wahrscheinlich, weil die Kamera auf den Bach und nicht das Uferw\u00e4ldchen gerichtet war. Anstelle von Katzen zeichnete sie vor allem Stockenten (<i>Anas platyrhynchos<\/i>), Rotschwanzbussarde (<i>Buteo jamaicensis<\/i>) und Waschb\u00e4ren (<i>Procyon lotor<\/i>) auf. In der San Francisco Bay Area ist die Artenvielfalt im Winter viel gr\u00f6sser als im Sommer, weil es im Sommer zu wenig regnet. Die milden Winterbedingungen hingegen machen dieses Gebiet zu einem Magneten f\u00fcr Zugv\u00f6gel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manche Arten nutzen das Gebiet um die Coyote Creek Field Station bloss f\u00fcr einige Wochen Fr\u00fchjahr (April\u2013Mai) oder im Herbst (September\u2013Oktober). Andere Arten hingegen nisten am Coyote Creek (April\u2013Juli) oder verbringen die Nichtbrutzeit (Oktober\u2013M\u00e4rz) hier. Nur wenige Arten sind ganzj\u00e4hrig anwesend. Die Feldstation bietet also wichtigen Lebensraum f\u00fcr verschiedene Phasen des Jahreszyklus verschiedener Arten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-videopress\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='500' height='281' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/pSOSfma5?cover=1&amp;controls=0&amp;loop=1&amp;muted=1&amp;persistVolume=0&amp;preloadContent=metadata&amp;useAverageColor=1&amp;hd=0' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen data-resize-to-parent=\"true\" allow='clipboard-write'><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1674852142'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">F\u00fcr diese Arten ist das Flussufer wie eine kleine Insel. Die Region um den Coyote Creek ist ein Ballungsgebiet mit \u00fcber 7 Millionen Einwohnerinnen und Einwohnern. Ein grosser Teil davon war fr\u00fcher von Eichenw\u00e4ldern bedeckt, die heute fast vollst\u00e4ndig st\u00e4dtischen Wohngebieten gewichen sind. In der Bucht von San Francisco selbst gab es Marschland und \u00dcbergangszonen, die gr\u00f6sstenteils durch Salzteiche ersetzt wurden. Ein grosses Projekt zur Wiederherstellung des Marschlands ist im Gange. Dennoch d\u00fcrfen die kleinen Flecken Land, die f\u00fcr die Tierwelt \u00fcbrig geblieben sind, nicht untersch\u00e4tzt werden \u2013 denn die Forschung hat gezeigt, dass nicht nur grosse Naturschutzgebiete, sondern auch kleinere Fl\u00e4chen wie die Uferw\u00e4lder rund um die Feldstation f\u00fcr die vielen Zugv\u00f6gel im Silicon Valley wichtig sind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dies ist eine der zentralen Erkenntnisse aus der Arbeit der SFBBO in der Bucht von San Francisco: Obwohl die meisten Erhaltungsmassnahmen auf grosse, hochwertige Lebensr\u00e4ume ausgerichtet sind, sollten kleine oder gesch\u00e4digte Lebensr\u00e4ume nicht vernachl\u00e4ssigt werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>San Jos\u00e9, California, USA Dan Wenny, San Francisco Bay Bird ObservatoryYiwei Wang, San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory Only ten years ago, the outskirts of San Jos\u00e9 still hosted fields.
